Neophytes no more: ZWA graduates pioneer zero-waste
Publication: Zero Waste Academy: Stories of Impact

It was a privilege to write about the journey of four of the graduates of the Zero Waste Academy, co-implemented by GAIA Asia Pacific and Mother Earth Foundation, as they applied the lessons they've learned to try to make a difference in their respective countries. These are students who became zero waste champions with their own successful community models: Alugnoa Desmond (GAYO - Ghana), Fictor Ferdinand (YPBB - Indonesia), Catur Yudha Hariani (PPLH Bali - Indonesia ) and Cle Bern Paglinawan (Siquijor Provincial Government - Philippines).

Women eco-champions in APAC: their struggles and triumphs
Publication: Vision & Grit: Exceptional Zero Waste Womenin the Asia Pacific Region

It was a pleasure to interview three of the 14 environmental leaders featured in this collection of stories: Jane Bremmer ("At the Forefront of Environmental Justice"), Mariyam Hamsha Hussain ("Architect, Environmental Advocate, and Feminist"), and Yuyun Ismawati Drwiega ("Battling for the Next Generation’s Future"). It was inspiring to learn how these women persevered and made a huge difference in people's lives. It just goes to show how vital women's work can be for the environment and for society. How reimagining enterprises can foster a zero-waste economy
Publication: Business Unusual: Enterprises Paving the Way to Zero Waste
Published by: Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA)
Date published: January 2021
The best thing about writing for this publication is learning about entrepreneurs who reimagined businesses to suit their zero-waste lifestyle, and made it work!
My first collaboration with GAIA introduced me to:
-
Refillables Hoi An (a refillables store that started
small but sparked a "refill revolution" in that part
of Vietnam), -
Enviu (a global venture builder that makes just the
right business interventions to help companies go zero-waste), -
NUDE (a Malaysian store normalizing reusable packaging and local sourcing), and
-
Bring Me Home (an Australian company that rescued more than 20 tonnes of food from being thrown away).
